Australia's lovable koala is sometimes known as the native bear bu in fact, is no relation to the bear family. The koala is a nocturnal, tree-dwelling marsupial that feeds almost exclusively on the leaves of eucalyptus trees. At birth, the tiny 19mm baby koala climbs into the mother's warm pouch where it stays for about 5 to 6 months.Then it clings with its strong claws to the mother's back for another 3 to 4 months while she travels from tree to tree.
